Spencer debated for The Dalton School in New York City. He achieved regional and national success in Public Forum Debate, advancing at tournaments including Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Georgetown. During his career, Spencer qualified for the New York State Championships and Tournament of Champions hosted by UK.

Spencer has held numerous leadership roles within other debate organizations and non-profits. He coaches at the New York City Urban Debate League, coordinating lesson plans with staff and providing debate instruction to historically underserved middle school students. In addition to his coaching work, he was elected to the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) Leadership Council, representing the New York City/Long Island district of the NSDA. In this role, he oversees planning for the national tournament, creates NSDA resources and social media posts, and manages NSDA-Student partnerships for over 12,000 debaters, alumni, and coaches globally.

Since its inception in 2022, Spencer has helped develop all of Eloquence Academy’s existing programs and personally coached hundreds of students in debate. In 2024, he was recognized by The Hershey Company and Youth Service America for his work, receiving the title “Hershey Heartwarming Hero”.
