The process of starting and maintaining a debate program is expensive. We estimate that the average cost to send a medium-sized debate team to a standard tournament is often upwards of $5,000. Attending tournaments typically incurs various fees, including tournament registration fees, hiring chaperones and judges, and coordinating transport, meals, and hotels. As a result, more than 85% of public schools nationwide lack a debate program.

School Partner Spotlight Series

  • Tomales High School

    Tomales High School is a rural high school in the Shoreline Unified School District in Northern California. At the start of the year, all 10th and 11th grade students at Tomales participated in an “Intro to Debate” seminar. Since then, Eloquence instructors have provided weekly debate coaching to Tomales students in coordination with the Rural Debate Initiative.

  • Jackson High School

    Jackson High School is a public high school in Massillon, Ohio. Jackson already had a debate program before joining forces with Eloquence. Benjamin McGugin, Director of Forensics, has used Eloquence’s curriculum to prepare novice students for future tournaments in the OSDA (Ohio Speech and Debate Association).

  • Centennial High

    Centennial High School is a public high school in Corona, California, within the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Corona recently established its debate club and uses Eloquence’s Public Forum and World Schools debate curriculum with its 60 person team. The Centennial debate program meets afterschool on a bi-weekly basis.

  • Owyhee High School

    Owyhee High School is a rural high school in Meridian, Idaho. Owyhee already had a debate program before joining forces with Eloquence. Eloquence instructors work with Owyhee students both in a 1:1 format and in small cohorts of 15-20 students to teach Congressional and Public Forum debate. This partnership was established in coordination with the Rural Debate Initiative.

  • Sonora Elementary

    Sonora Elementary School is a rural elementary school in Tuolumne County, California in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. At the start of the year, students at Sonora participated in an “Intro to Debate” seminar. Since then, Eloquence instructors have provided tri-weekly virtual debate coaching to Sonora students in coordination with the Rural Debate Initiative.

  • IN-Tech Academy 368x

    IN-Tech Academy 368x is a Title 1 school in the Bronx of New York City. IN-Tech already had a debate program before joining forces with Eloquence. Eloquence provides acccssible competition opportunities to the IN-Tech Public Forum teams at the Winter Cup and Spring Cup tournaments, hosting over 20 of IN-Tech’s debaters.

  • Montclair Kimberly

    Montclair Kimberly Academy (MKA) is an independent school in Montclair, New Jersey. MKA serves students from pre-K through 12th grade. The MKA high school debate team, which meets afterschool on a weekly basis, has utilized Eloquence’s curriculum to prepare for upcoming tournaments and competitions.
