Governance

Overview
Transparent governance stewarding purpose and empowering vision
Chaired by Marsha Yuan, the Board of Trustees is the primary governing body at Eloquence Academy. Through quarterly meetings with the leadership team, the Board provides strategic counsel, evaluates progress toward institutional goals, and helps ensure that the organization remains aligned with its mission and positioned for future success. Trustees, who serve as members of the Board, are diverse and accomplished professionals whose collective expertise spans K–12 education, higher education institutions, law firms, investment banking, start-ups, and venture capital. A broad range of experience enables consistently thoughtful guidance and informed perspectives on key issues facing the organization.
Joining the Board is a meaningful opportunity to support the organization’s work in developing the next generation of leaders. Members collaborate with one another to enhance the student experience, identify relevant outreach opportunities for volunteer and student recruitment, and actively support fundraising efforts—promoting the organization within their workplace and facilitating connections between Eloquence Academy and their affiliated entities. Board members are asked to make a two-year membership commitment of about 50 hours total, contribute a minimum of $4,000 to Eloquence Academy during their term, and attend at least two of the four virtual meetings per year. A significant 63% of Eloquence Academy funding comes from federal sources or agencies. Most notably, Eloquence Academy receives grant funding from the Corporation for National & Community Service, dba AmeriCorps.
As part of the executive branch of the government, AmeriCorps has asked that all its grantees ensure alignment with the Trump-Vance Administration priorities and the applicable executive orders, memoranda, and corresponding guidelines issued since January 20, 2025 by President Trump, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Office of Personnel Management. Specifically, since January of 2025, Eloquence Academy has been monitoring and considering its compliance with the following executive orders:
Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to The Federal Government - It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female. “Sex” shall refer to an individual’s immutable biological classification as either male or female. “Sex” is not a synonym for and does not include the concept of “gender identity.” When administering or enforcing sex-based distinctions, every agency and all Federal employees acting in an official capacity on behalf of their agency shall use the term “sex” and not “gender” in all applicable Federal policies and documents. Federal funds shall not be used to promote gender ideology.
Unleashing American Energy - All activities, programs, and operations associated with the American Climate Corps, including actions taken by any agency shall be terminated immediately.
Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing - Terminate, to the maximum extent allowed by law, all DEI, DEIA, and “environmental justice” offices and positions (including but not limited to “Chief Diversity Officer” positions); all “equity action plans,” “equity” actions, initiatives, or programs, “equity-related” grants or contracts; and all DEI or DEIA performance requirements for employees or contractors.
Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity - Each counterparty or grant recipient must ensure its compliance in all respects with all applicable Federal anti-discrimination laws is material to the government’s payment decisions for purposes of section 3729(b)(4) of title 31, United States Code; and require such counterparty or recipient to certify that it does not operate any programs promoting DEI that violate any applicable Federal anti-discrimination laws.
