Overview
We are deeply appreciative of the effort and time investment from all programs, chaperones, judges, and students.
We believe that confidence and comfort with public speaking are best nurtured through frequent practice. With new student-facing opportunities in the pipeline and countless competitions scattered throughout the year, our competitive environment is becoming increasingly vibrant—a home to over 800 competitors at all experience levels.
Competitions are a prestigious opportunity for students to enhance their academic profiles and exercise their debate muscles. Participants are judged by some of the foremost leaders in the field of public speaking and public policy on a range of criteria including creativity, the clarity and relevance of their message, their ability to incorporate research, and delivery. At the end of judging, all participants receive certificates of attendance and, most importantly, valuable feedback identifying areas for improvement. Thus, competitions serve as a motivational learning experience and a powerful celebration of preparation and hard work. They are dots along the page of a student’s beautiful oratory journey.
In particular, awards encourage greater engagement, recognize students’ hard work, and validate their progress in their public speaking journeys. All competitors receive a certificate of participation. The following winners and honorable mentions were deemed to be of special merit and will receive scholarships, mentorship, and opportunities to further hone their speaking and leadership skills. Additionally, cash prizes of up to $5,000 are awarded for outstanding work, helping further our students’ academic and personal studies.
A collection of diverse, inspiring youth voices.
The prison system should focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment. Action should be taken to reduce plastic pollution in oceans. Air cushions should be used instead of styrofoam in packaging.
These are our students’ opinions, and they are seeds for social change. Hear winning speeches from our prior competitions!
