Workshops and reflections about September 11, 2001
c/o Eloquence Academy
Eloquence Academy led a series of activities about September 11, 2001, encouraging students to examine the intersection of historical memory, public art, and public speaking.
24 years ago, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks unfolded across New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC, claiming 3,000 lives. We remain committed to mourning those that lost their lives, memorializing the heroism demonstrated by first responders and military veterans, and celebrating the resilient American spirit of 2001 and years following.
With the support of the Eloquence Charitable Fund, we integrated various reflection and education sessions during our regular classes and in-school programs, enabling us to reach over 300 students and volunteers. Students worked with our team members Spencer Chaisanguanthum, Erika Chiu, Sowmiya Deventhira-Raja, Daniel Gibson, Ellie Kim, Arnav Maheshwari, and Kira Waldhalm. It was a particularly exciting opportunity to connect these younger generations with an important part of our national history.
Eloquence Academy was one of 50 organizations nationwide heeding the call with a $3,000 federal grant from the Corporation for National & Community Service (“AmeriCorps”) and Youth Service America through their groundbreaking 09/11 We Serve to Remember Grant Program. Kira Waldhalm, Director of the Charitable Fund, echoed Chaisanguanthum’s previous remarks, noting: “We were deeply honored to receive the support of AmeriCorps and are eager to extend our partnership in future years. This grant allowed us to further our mission of empowering youth through civic engagement and purposeful communication.”
We encourage youth aged 5-25 to participate in community service or remembrance projects for the remainder of the week!
