Impact Reports
The Impact Report is published annually in July, following the conclusion of an academic year. It shares the progress we have made, the milestones we have reached, and the difference we have created. Beyond a summary of the past 12 months, the Impact Report is a celebration of the collective efforts of our students, educators, partners, and supporters.
Beginning in April, our leadership team collaborates with the development office and external consultants to compile the document. Through intensive research, data collection, and community conversations, we glean a diversity of stories, achievements, and insights. All data is verified for consistency, accuracy, and completeness through an internal process, but we encourage the public to reach out with any errors, inconsistencies, or omissions.

While the statistics and graphics above highlight everywhere we have been, behind it all is a far bigger network: a global community, connected and mobilized online.
Through activity on Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, we share individual student stories, offer behind-the-scenes looks at nonprofit leadership, and make it easy for volunteers to get involved and take action in just a few clicks. Collectively, we are proud to have amassed 3,000,000 impressions with 75,000 words and 250 posts.

Confidence
A moment when I surprised myself was when I managed to make a five minute speech within the whole timeframe. Five minutes may not seem like a lot, but when you are speaking it is actually a really long time. I was able to say everything I wanted to say and more, clearly without stuttering. This is completely different from how I was before this program.
My biggest takeaway from the program was building confidence and self-expression. Before I attended the program, I felt unsure and often shy. However, through weekly practices, feedback from coaches, and real-time debates, I realized I learned something new. I learned how to organize my thoughts, and my confidence significantly increased.
I believe that a moment that surprised me was when I was having a debate. I started to be sassy, and I just said whatever came to mind. It convinced the judge to vote for my side; my sassiness became valuable!
Civil Discourse
Although I have been hesitant about debate in the past, this program has led me to believe it’s an extremely interesting and engaging activity. I look forward to becoming a good listener and maybe even be able to explain various topics off the top of my head.
I want to learn more about weighing impacts on certain arguments… it shows how important your plan is compared to your opponent’s. I am most excited about learning how to structure a speech and skills on how to get the judge to vote on our side.
I want to sincerely thank you for your time, guidance, and support during the sessions. The support and the constructive feedback I received helped me to grow more confidence in expressing my thoughts and thinking critically. Again, thank you for spending your precious time with us and for creating such a positive learning environment for us, which has helped us a lot along the journey.
Self-Discovery
It was a fun experience, and I learned so much from it. I think I would like to continue debating in the future. Debate helps us a lot in our skills of talking, which are really helpful for us in the future.
I would like to continue doing debate into the future. I am most excited to learn about rebuttal speeches, and how we can make them strong to make us win our cases.
I learnt to be more confident, especially when starting my points. When I'm confident, I get a better chance to win the debate than when I shy away. Even when I'm kind of stuck midway I continue talking while sticking to my point.

in Luanda, Angola
After unexpectedly placing second at an international extemporaneous-style debate tournament in Cape Town, South Africa, Willa Mulhovo was determined to strengthen her skills. She worked one-on-one each week with volunteer coaches from New York and Washington, D.C., refining her note-taking, speech organization, partner collaboration, and delivery. Her commitment was evident in every session, and by the end of the program, she had grown into a leader on her school's debate team, mentoring younger debaters and helping establish regular practice routines that continue to strengthen the program.

Spring Cup Debate Tournament
in Bronx, New York
IN-Tech Academy is a Title 1 school in the Bronx with 90% of students under the federal poverty line. Wendy Spector, the Dean of Students, explained that her school could not afford debate without making significant budget shifts or forcing families to pay out-of-pocket. Optimistic about the free opportunity, Noah and Brandon joined Eloquence Academy. Week by week, they spoke with greater verve. Their familiarity with debate and confidence in their abilities grew.
Then came the Spring Cup. Noah and Brandon easily made it through the early rounds. Each win boosted their confidence, and by the time finals came around, they were brimming with excitement. Word had spread across IN-Tech and the rest of their school—teammates, Wendy, and her assistant coach—joined the Zoom room to cheer them on.

Debate Clubs Across Four Campuses
In Somaliland
Since emerging from civil war and state collapse more than three decades ago, Somaliland has made strides toward stability, yet significant challenges persist. Founded in 2019, Kaabe Schools is a scaling system of schools across Somaliland dedicated to student-centered, community-oriented, and inclusive education. Students formed transnational relationships while learning about confident public speaking, argumentation, and Aristotle’s rhetorical triangle. Beyond weekly in-school coachings, we formalized the speech and debate club and strenghtened a broader culture of student-driven civil discourse on campus.
